Occupational Therapy is a health profession within the field of rehabilitation medicine. The profession's focus is on the promotion, restoration and maintenance of productivity in people with a wide range of abilities and disabilities. Educated in the behavioural and neurosciences, occupational therapists provide assessments and intervention services to all individuals who have inherent difficulties satisfying their life roles or 'occupation'.

The role of occupational therapy in pediatrics is to equip children with the foundations to be successful in living skills. Consultation, assessment and intervention is directed to enhance a child's ability to be an independant and productive individual in the areas of self care, social/play and school.
