Elisa Chong is an occupational therapist who specializes in the field of pediatrics. Elisa’s clinical experience has seen her working with children with the diagnoses of Autism Spectrum Disorder(ASD), Dyspraxia, Attention Deficit Disorder(ADD), dysfunction of sensory integration, developmental delay, speech and language disorders, learning disabilities and Asperger’s Syndrome. Similarly, she had the opportunity to work with children with cerebral palsy, Duchene muscular dystrophy and spinal bifida, coming up with programs in the home as well as school setting, and teaching ways to integrate them into the society. Together with her group members, she presented a paper titled “The Movement Assessment Battery for Children: A preliminary study of its applicability in Singapore”. This research was carried out in different mainstream schools in Singapore, finding out the assessment tool’s suitability of use by assessing neurotypical children, judging through their motor skills and comparing them to the American children. Elisa also worked on a project titled “Occupational therapy strategies for children with ADHD”. This included strategies under the domains of sensory integration, cognition and behavioural, as well as researching on the psychosocial interventions, environmental modifications and strategies for use in different settings such as the classroom and in the home. She is also a member of the Singapore Association of Occupational Therapist.
 
Expertise

Invested in her clinical skills, Elisa has taken up the following courses to assist with her development.

  •  Hirstwood Multisensory Training – New ways to treat a child through working on different senses (mainly through visual and auditory), using equipment and tools like the brolly and projections

  •  Oral Motor Therapy – Unique tactile-sensory approach to speech therapy to develop the oral-motor muscles to improve speech and feeding functions.
